Mechanism Underlying Anti-Markovnikov Addition in the Reaction of Pentalenene Synthase. His lab has devised tools for directed evolution of modified DNA and peptides as an approach to designing carbohydrate vaccines against HIV. Our chemical biology program is directed at the design and synthesis of carbohydrate clusters which mimic important binding surfaces in biology. In total, the efforts of Padua and the Kern lab in collaboration with other Brandeis laboratories led to the donation of 250 boxes of gloves, 150 surgical masks and seven pairs of safety goggles.
